Omega 3 and Omega 6 controversy: which one should you consume more?

In the early 1980s, studies showed that the Inuit had low rates of heart disease despite their high-fat diet rich in fish. It turns out the omega 3 fatty acids in the fish may be what protects their hearts, along with other health benefits.

Omega-3, and Omega-6 fatty acids are known as essential "fatty acids" which means they cannot be synthesised in the body and have to be consumed from the diet.

Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids which are characterised by the presence of double bonds three atoms away from the terminal methyl group in the chemical structure. Three types of omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

ALA is mainly found in plant oils, while EPA and DHA are mainly found from marine sources.

There are two main sources of omega 3 fatty acids. Plant-based and Marine-based.

Marine sources of omega 3 include fish oil,  such as Salmon, Herring, Mackerel, Anchovies, Sardines, Pilchards, Bluefish, Tuna and Halibut. Naturally these contain EPA and DHA.

Plant sources of omega 3 include plant/nut oils such as English walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, vegetable oils ( canola, soybean, flaxseed/linseed and olive oil). Naturally, these contain ALA.

Eggs also contain omega 3 up to a certain extent.

Evidence from several studies has suggested that amounts of DHA and EPA in the form of fish or fish oil supplements lowers triglycerides, slows the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques ("hardening of the arteries"), lowers blood pressure slightly, as well as reduces the risk of death, heart attack, dangerous abnormal heart rhythms, and strokes in people with known heart disease. Both EPA and DHA are involved in hormone synthesis, control of immune functions, blood clotting and for cell membrane integrity.

However, high doses may have harmful effects, such as an increased risk of bleeding. Although similar benefits are proposed for alpha-linolenic acid, scientific evidence is less compelling, and beneficial effects may be less pronounced.

Also, some species of fish carry a higher risk of environmental contamination, such as with methylmercury.

It is a good decision to consume Omega 3 fatty acids as it can:
  • reduce inflammation
  • reduce blood triglyceride levels (increase HDL - beneficial cholesterol)
  • reduces the risk of non-fatal heart attacks
  • a good source of nutrition for patients with Crohn's disease or for those who need to be tube fed after abdominal surgeries.
  • important for healthy pregnancies
  • improvements in morning stiffness and joint tenderness.
  • reduce hypertension
  • act as anticoagulant (prevent blood clotting).

Omega 6 are essential fatty acids because mammalian cells lack omega-3 desaturase and cannot convert omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. Omega 6 fatty acids are precursors to lipoxins, eicosanoids, and endocannabinoids.

The common source of omega-6 fatty acids are vegetable oils such as grape seed oil, evening primrose oil, flax or linseed oil, rapeseed, hemp, cottonseed, soybean, sunflower seed, corn, safflower , sesame, and palm oil. Other sources include whole-wheat bread, nuts and poultry.

The health benefits of Omega 6 include:

  • lower risk of cardiovascular disease (coronary heart disease, stroke, heart attacks).
  • reducing cholesterol
  • reduces cancer risk
  • for eye health especially after eye surgery

However, recent insights suggested whether you should consume Omega-3, or Omega-6 more. The ideal Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio for healthy consumption was suggested to be 1:1. The closer the ratio to 1:1 the healthier it is. Modern diet has included more omega 6 than what it used to be thus further increasing the ratio, the average ratio these days in developed countries is 16:1.

Excessive consumption of omega 6 was linked with increased cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This is due to the increased inflammatory processes in the body through increased omega 6 consumption. Therefore, it is important to know the sources of dietary fats in our diet and decrease the omega 6 but increase omega 3 fatty acids for a more balanced omega 6: omega 3 ratio.

Food Pyramids and Healthy Food Plates

Familiar with this term?

Yes It's a Food Pyramid...Almost the same as the Egyptian Pyramids except this one is based on food. let's check these images.

Food pyramids can be variable according to countries and food sources. European countries for instance emphasises the usage of wheat while some Asian countries prefer rice, African countries to some extent prefer cassava while some population prefers yams or potatoes.

Ground Level (Which we should eat the most) - Carbohydrates-which consists of whole grain such as rice, wheat, maize, potatoes and many more. It is preferable that you eat them in its grainy form (whole grain) as this contains the most fibre compared to the processed (so-called) -white grain ones. Furthermore, whole grains contain more minerals and vitamins.

Carbohydrates also provide you with the most energy but it doesn't contain the most energy..so EAT A LOT of carbohydrates to keep you energized throughout the day. There are two types of simple and complex carbohydrates. FAO/WHO recommends that people consume between 45-70% of total energy intake from carbohydrates. But this also depends on the energy requirement and physical activity of the individuals, for instance, an athlete requires more of it than a sedentary individual who works in an office and does minimal exercise. Free sugars (glucose / fructose) also falls under carbohydrates but experts suggests that the intake of free sugars should be under 10% of total energy intake as it increases the risk of getting chronic metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes, and dental caries.

More information about Carbohydrate and its requirement will be discussed further in a different post.

Level 2- Vegetable this contributes to the most vitamin intake for our body, especially dark green leafy vegetables and orange/red vegetables..dark green vegetables contains the most nutrients for your body and orange/red contains beta carotene that is required for making vitamin A.

Furthermore vegetables contain cellulose substances that makes it fibrous and good for your digestion. There is no recommendation of how much vegetables should be taken as a percentage of daily calorie intake but some countries recommend individuals to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

Level 3 - Fruits, there are many to choose from and all are delicious, in case you don't like fruits, try to adjust and experiment yourself with a wide range of fruits. There are a myriad choice to choose from, from citrus to seasonal fruit, and maybe you can explore other fruits from other countries..all depends on your budget and you initiative.

Sometimes Level 3 is combined together with Level 2 (vegetables).

Level 4 - Protein: meat, poultry, fish, beans, nuts, milks, eggs, cheese, yogurt, dairy products should be consumed in moderation. Of course, meat, poultry are a good source of protein but as the saying goes too much of something is bad enough, Fish proteins are healthier to eat though, better still use plant-derived proteins which is found mostly in nuts, beans, grains and legumes such as soybeans, chickpeas and different types of beans. Generally, protein should make up about 12-20 percent of total calorie intake. More explanation proteins will be given in a separate post.

Top most level -  Fats, oils and sweets. fats and oils because it contains a lot of lipid substances that is easily deposited on your skin, buttocks, belly, neck, blood vessel and the outer layer of your heart aka pericardium. You don't want those to be there anyway, don't you?. Fats contain the most energy per gram but it should be used carefully as it has been shown to cause chronic diseases. Total energy intake from fats should be around 30%, daily.

However, things are about to change in several countries and have changed in some. In Australia and Europe for example, the basic level is replaced by fruits and vegetables - emphasising the importance of limiting calorie intake from Carbohydrates. This may well be a challenge to some but could provide beneficial effects in the long run.

Also several countries have adopted healthy plate diagrams / pictures instead of a pyramid. The argument is that food proportion by using plates is easier to understand than food pyramids.

Examples are:, My Healthy plate of Singapore, My Healthy Plate of USA, Heathy Plate in Australia,  Eatwell plate in the UK

So it would be interesting to see if food pyramids eventually will be replaced entirely by food plates. Other countries may choose to use the combination of food plates and food pyramids.

Spirulina for Super Health

Spirulina for Super Health

Without nutritious food, humans wouldn’t have the energy to live.
The body breaks food into molecules called nutrients, which are the
chemical compounds responsible for carrying out thousands of functions
within our cells, including building bones, strengthening immunity to
disease, and healing tissue. For our systems to function properly,
a wide variety of nutrients are needed. The macro-nutrients are
proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The micro-nutrients are vitamins and
minerals. And then of course, there’s water, which makes all chemical
reactions possible.

If our diets are deficient in any of these vital nutrients, our bodies
can go on living but will not function optimally.
Green superfoods are algaes and cereal grasses - spirulina, chlorella,
kelp, barley grass, wheatgrass and alfalfa - that are super-charged
with nutrients. They’re available in powdered form to be used as
dietary supplements and are packaged both individually and in
combinations. One spoonful per day can give you as much nutrition as
the recommended five daily servings of vegetables.

Chlorella and spirulina for protein
Vegetarians often have trouble incorporating enough protein into their
diets. Animal protein has all of the essential amino acids, but plant
proteins tend to be incomplete, they usually require careful combining
to get all the necessary protein. One extraordinary characteristic of
spirulina and chlorella is their high protein content. Both of these
green superfoods contain all eight essential amino acids.

Green superfoods deliver vitamins
Thirteen chemical substances comprise vitamins: the water-soluble
types are vitamin C plus eight types of B vitamin. The fat-soluble
types are vitamins A, D, E and K. Vitamins abound in green superfoods.

Green superfoods deliver minerals
Minerals are inorganic substances that come from the soil. We absorb
them through food and drink. For good health, we need sufficient
quantities of sixteen minerals-- the macro-minerals: calcium,
phosphorous and magnesium; the trace minerals: chromium, copper,
fluoride, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, sulfur and
zinc; and the electrolytes: chloride, potassium and sodium.
Spirulina powder has high levels of potassium, making it the ideal
choice for boosting energy. It also contains all the macro-minerals
and six of the trace minerals. Like Spirulina, kelp contains all
of the macro-nutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrate), vitamins B
& C, all of the macro-minerals and several of the trace minerals.
Additionally, it is high in iodine, ensuring health of the thyroid,
adrenal and pituitary glands.

Green superfoods help detox
Periodic internal cleansing is required to counteract the harmful
effects of the Standard American Diet (SAD), which can leave your
system clogged and sluggish. Chlorella and wheatgrass are high in
chlorophyll, which is most useful in the process of detoxification.
It also acts as a deodorant from the inside-out, reducing body odor
and bad breath.

Green superfoods balance pH
Cooked, processed foods, and popular beverages such as tea, coffee,
alcohol and soft drinks, will create acidic conditions in your
bloodstream and tissue. An acidic system is the ideal breeding ground
for mold, bacteria and fungus. Green superfoods create an alkaline
environment, which can help thwart arthritis and heart disease,
regulate blood sugar, reverse digestive problems and improve joint
mobility. Barley grass is especially good as an alkalizing agent.

Green superfoods help control cholesterol
Alfalfa positively affects cholesterol levels. It acts as a magnet
for LDL or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, preventing it from
lingering in the bloodstream. This is due to alfalfa’s high fiber
content and unique chemical make-up. At the same time, it does not
reduce levels of HDL or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is
beneficial.

Other benefits of green superfoods:
- Optimal liver function
- Neutralization of heavy metals and irradiation
- Stimulation of the immune system
- Healthy skin and hair
- Lower blood pressure
- Healthy digestion
- Contain essential fatty acids

Using green superfoods is easy
Enhancing your nutrient intake is as simple as mixing a couple
spoonfuls of chlorella with spirulina powder, or any other green food
to; salad dressings, juices, smoothies, water or soup. You can also
just sprinkle on salads and foods to make the most bountiful meal.
Some special conditions preclude the use of these nutrient-packed
supplements. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain prescription
medications are contra-indicators. Always make sure you contact
your physician before consuming superfoods if you have any existing
conditions.

Super health the natural way
Whole foods will always be superior to synthetic vitamins because
their parts work synergistically, delivering compounds that cannot
be reproduced in the artificial setting of a laboratory. Taken in
combination or separately, green superfoods are easily absorbed by
the body and are rich in the nutrients and enzymes needed for super
health.

Benefits of Blueberries

Blueberries are the fruits of a shrub that belong to the heath family, which includes the cranberry and bilberry as well as the azalea, mountain laurel and rhododendron.

Blueberries grow in clusters and range in size from that of a small pea to a marble. They are deep in color, ranging from blue to maroon to purple-black, and feature a white-gray waxy "bloom" that covers the surface serving as a protective coat. The skin surrounds a semi-transparent flesh that encases tiny seeds.

There are many health benefits of blueberries, among them are :

1. Immune System Enhancer : Blue Berries, being very rich in anti oxidants like Anthocyanin, vitamin C, B complex, vitamin E, vitamin A, copper (a very effective immune builder and anti-bacterial), selenium, zinc, iron (promotes immunity by raising haemoglobin and oxygen concentration in blood) etc. boost up your immune system and prevent infections.
Enhanced immune system means you are more resistant to infectious diseases particularly colds and flu.

2. An excellent source of antioxidant : Antioxidant are molecules that can neutralize harmful free radicals that can eventually cause cancer. Blueberries are well stocked with Vitamin C and Anthocyanin. In fact, blueberries ranked no 1 in terms of antioxidant contents among fruits. Antioxidants also can reduce the risk for cataracts, dementia, glaucoma, alzheimers, and many other diseases.

3. Reduced risk of Heart Disease: The nutrients in blueberries along with their low fat and low sugar all work together to help people reduce their tyglycerides and cholesterol and in turn low their risk for a heart attack.

4. Brain Health: The anthocyanin, the selenium, the vitamins A, B-complex, C and E, the zinc, sodium, potassium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese etc., among others, can prevent and heal neurotic disorders by preventing degeneration and death of neurons, brain-cells and also by restoring health of the central nervous system. This fruit is highly recommended to those affected by nervous-related diseases.

5. Eye Health: As people get older their visions tends to get worse and worse. Blueberries, with their high concentration of anthocyanosides have been shown to help slow this deteriation of vision.

6. Digestive Health: lueberries are high in sodium, copper, fructose, and acids that all help improve digestion. They are also high in fiber which helps to prevent constipation.

7. Low in sugar: Blueberries however are really low in sugar in comparison to other fruits. A cup of blueberries has roughly 80 calories and they are very low on the glycemic index. As a result blueberries are a better choice than many other fruits.

Tips & Facts:

1. Remember, the deeper the color of the Blue Berries, the more they are rich in anti oxidants and other medicinal values.

2. Choose blueberries that are firm and have a lively, uniform hue colored with a whitish bloom. Shake the container, noticing whether the berries have the tendency to move freely; if they do not, this may indicate that they are soft and damaged or moldy. Avoid berries that appear dull in color or are soft and watery in texture. They should be free from moisture since the presence of water will cause the berries to decay. When purchasing frozen berries, shake the bag gently to ensure that the berries move freely and are not clumped together, which may suggest that they have been thawed and refrozen.

3. They keep you fresh, active, fit, sharp, close to nature and in a good mood, as they are very good anti depressants.

Eating Fruit

It's long but very informative.

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON ANEMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining  every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants, flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C.. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Alcohol Pros and Cons?

Good nutrition can help to improve your health and prevent diseases. The nutrients that your body needs are carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. Some people feel that alcohol is another necessity in their diet, while others feel that any amount is toxic and needs to be avoided.

The key to determining whether you need alcohol is to understand what alcohol is and how it is processed in your body. Calories provide energy for our bodies to function. We get calories from carbohydrates, protein, fat, and alcohol. For each gram, you get a set number of calories.

One Gram Calories
Carbohydrates 4
Protein 4
Fat 9
Alcohol 7

The vitamin, mineral, and water content add to the nutritional value for each of these energy sources but do not provide any calories. A food is considered to be a source of "empty calories" when there are no other nutrients present besides the nutrient that provide the calories. Alcohol is considered to be a source of empty calories because it provides only negligible amounts of vitamins and minerals. Due to the fact that alcohol often replaces nutrient-rich food and directly interferes with the body's absorption, storage, and use of nutrients, it has also been called the "antinutrient nutrient."

Alcohol can also be classified as a drug. Under this category, it is the most widely used drug in the world. Approximately 10 to 15 million Americans are alcoholics or problem drinkers, and more than 100,000 deaths each year are attributed to alcohol consumption. The majority of the population consumes alcohol moderately or occasionally. The potential to become addicted to alcohol is a serious problem that warrants limitations on its consumption.

Function

# Alcohol increases the risk of various health conditions, such as heart and liver disease. Alcohol works directly on the central nervous system, impairing brain function. Over time, excessive alcohol consumption can destroy brain cells, resulting in various degrees of brain damage.

Effects

# Alcohol affects the way people behave. For instance, some people become more violent. This can lead to an increase in crime. People experience a decrease in mental alertness when drinking alcohol and may make poor decisions. Alcohol dulls the senses and alters one's perception of situations and surroundings. Alcohol also affects memory.

Benefits of Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe vera, also known as the true or medicinal aloe, is a species of succulent plant that probably originated in the southern half of the Arabian peninsula, Northern Africa, the Canary islands and Cape Verde. Aloe vera grows in arid climates and is widely distributed in Africa, India and other arid areas. The species is frequently cited as being used in herbal medicine.

Aloe vera contains many beneficial ingredients. Aloe vera contains all the vitamins, except Vitamin D, that people need on a daily basis. It also contains enzymes, minerals, anti-microbial, amino acids and sugars that are all beneficial to the human body. All of these ingredients in aloe vera are why it is used to aid digestion, reduce inflammation, cleanse and sooth the body.

Aloe vera is one of the only known natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12, and it contains many minerals vital to the growth process and healthy function of all the body's systems. It also known to contain antioxidants that can neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.

Aloe vera juice is made from aloe vera gel. It is one of the aloe vera products that can be taken internally so a person can get the internal benefits of aloe vera. Although there have not been many studies involving how beneficial aloe vera juice can be, many people have experienced the benefits and aloe vera juice is now quite popular.

The three main categories of research include anti-inflammatory, anti- bacterial, and anti-viral actions of Aloe vera. The juice is said to soothe digestive tract irritations such as colitis, ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome. Aloe's ability to encourage the release of pepsin (a gastric juice enzyme necessary for digestion) when the stomach is full is a possible reason for its ulcer-healing effects (Journal of the American Osteopathic Society, 1963, vol.62).

Aloe vera juice is known to help to detoxify the body and cleanse the colon. The detoxification properties of the juice also work to detoxify the blood stream. It is also said that aloe vera juice could benefit a person with intestinal or stomach problems. It should aid in the healing of ulcers and help the digestive tract to work smoothly. It is also said that aloe vera juice can improve circulation. The aloe helps dilate the capillaries and aid in cell growth. Aloe vera juice also has many benefits that aloe vera gel does. It acts as a antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent, preventing illness. The overall effect of taking aloe vera juice regularly can be a feeling of energy and health. Probably due to the increase in absorption of nutrients and enhanced intestinal health.

Aloe vera juice is said to be one of the finest body cleansers, cleaning morbid matter from the stomach, liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, and is considered the finest, known colon cleanser. Studies have shown that it is healing and soothing in the relief of indigestion, stomach distress and ulcers. People claim relief from arthritis, bladder and kidney infections; leg cramps, constipation, hemorrhoids, insomnia, and for vaginitis, it is said to be an excellent vaginal douche. An excellent internal tonic for energy and well being Aloe juice may add greatly to the strength of the food fed, digestive tract, skin, and overall good health and happiness.

It is also used to ease heartburn, ulcers, diverticular disorders, and other types of digestive upset. It is used as an anti-inflammatory and may be taken internally as a remedy for certain digestive complaints. European folk medicine calls for using Aloe vera juice to relieve heartburn and ulcers. Preliminary research has shown promising results. Clinical trials in Japan indicate that certain compounds in Aloe vera reduce the secretion of stomach juices and the formation of lesions.

Precautions:

Aloe vera is non-toxic, with no known side effects, provided the aloin has been removed by processing. Taking Aloe vera that contains aloin in excess amounts has been associated with various side effects.

If you are using oral corticosteroids, such as beclomethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone, it is important not to overuse or misuse Aloe vera juice. A potassium deficiency can develop, and you may experience toxic effects from the medication.

Although it is removed, in practice Aloe vera juice may sometimes still contain tiny quantities of the laxative compound found in aloe latex. Should you begin to have cramps or diarrhea do not ingest any more of the juice.

Benefits of Cabbage

The health benefits of cabbage include treatment of constipation, stomach ulcers, headache, excess weight, skin disorders, eczema, jaundice, scurvy, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, eye disorders, heart diseases, ageing, and Alzheimer's disease.

Cabbage is abundant is Vitamin C – even more than orange. Vitamin C, being one of the best anti oxidant, reduces free radicals in your body which are the basic causes of ageing. It also helps repairing the wear and tears in the body. Thus it is very helpful in treating ulcers, certain cancers, depressions, for strengthening immune system and fighting against cough and cold, healing of wounds and damaged tissues, proper functioning of nervous system and thereby help curing Alzheimer’s disease etc.

Cabbage is very rich in fiber. This helps retain water and forms the bulk of the food and the bowels. Thus it is a good cure for constipation and related problems.

Cabbage is a good detoxifier :it purifies blood and removes toxins (primarily free radicals and uric acid which is major cause for rheumatism, gout, arthritis, renal calculi, skin diseases, eczema, hardening and de-colorization of skin etc.). This detoxifying effect of cabbage is due to the presence of vitamin C and sulphur.

Cabbage, being rich in iodine, helps in proper functioning of the brain and the nervous system, apart from keeping the endocrinal glands in proper condition. Thus, it is good for brain and treatment of neurotic disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. The various other nutrients present in cabbage such as vitamin-E which keeps the skin, eye and hair healthy, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc., are very useful for overall health. The cabbage can also be used for treatment of varicose veins, leg ulcers, peptic and duodenal ulcers.

Benefits of Cabbage:
1. Cabbage is anti – inflammatory vegetable

2. Cabbage contains lactic acid that acts to disinfect colon

3. Cabbage can also be used to reduce headache pain
4. Another benefit of cabbage is in it's anti –cancer properties and is also said to be able in treating other skin conditions
5. Drinking cabbage juice from the stem is a good remedy for ulcers.
The use:
1. Drink fresh cabbage juice if you suffer from gastritis

2. This is another benefit of cabbage. Drink 25 – 50 ml cabbage juice everyday to treat headache, asthma, bronchitis and other digestion problems.

3. White cabbage juice dabbed on mouth ulcers will make the healing faster.

Disadvantages of drinking coffee

While everybody seems to drink coffee, here are among the main reasons why we should limit the intake of coffee and stimulating drinks such as tea, chocolate and soda.

The main culprits in all of these are the caffeine. Here what caffeine does to our body:

1. Caffeine Is Highly Addictive

Like other drugs, caffeine causes a chemical addiction within the brain. Quitting coffee or soda can create withdrawal symptoms – headaches, sleepiness, irritability, anxiety – while the brain’s chemistry readjusts.

2. Caffeine Increases Stress Levels

Drinking four or five cups of coffee a day makes the body act as if it is under constant stress. Combined with additional work pressures, it can increase blood pressure significantly, leading to an increased risk of long-term heart disease, says a US report.

3. Caffeine accelerates Aging and Wrinkles

Caffeine contributes to the decline in production of hormones produced in abundance during youth – DHEA, melatonin, and others – which speeds the aging process. Because caffeine dehydrates the body, skin loses water from its cells, causing wrinkling and sagging.

4. Caffeine Accelerates Bone loss

Caffeine causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and trace minerals, which can lead to osteoporosis. Some women are more likely to be affected by caffeine than others due to genetic factors; however, it seems prudent to recommend that all older women have adequate dietary calcium, and limit caffeine intake to no more than 300 milligrams per day.

5. Caffeine Causes The Mood Swings

Mood disturbances such as anxiety, depression, irritability, and attention disorders are aggravated by chronic caffeine consumption. Rather than increasing mental activity as many caffeine drinkers believe, caffeine actually decreases blood flow to the brain by as much as 30% and negatively impacts memory and mental performance. Mood disturbances may appear after the stimulant effect of caffeine wears off – often about three hours later prompting many to consume more caffeine and they may also appear during the recovery period after quitting caffeine.

6. Caffeine Disturbs Normal Sleep Patterns

Because it is a stimulant, caffeine keeps you awake longer, thereby shortening the amount and the quality of sleep each night, which takes a toll on your level of alertness the next day and overall health. Because of sleep deprivation and fatigue, a person might look to caffeine for a boost, thereby perpetuating the vicious cycle.

Excess caffeine in the body causes anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, headaches, muscle tremors, gatrointestinal problems, diarrhea, nausea and irregular heartbeat.

So, dear readers, considering the effect of caffeine to our body please choose your drinks wisely from now on. A good substitute will be a good herbal tea that do not contain caffeine at all.

Benefit of Oats

The common oat (Avena sativa) is a species of cereal grain grown for its seed, which is known by the same name (usually in the plural, unlike other grains). While oats are suitable for human consumption as oatmeal and rolled oats, one of the most common uses is as livestock feed. Oats make up a large part of the diet of horses and are regularly fed to cattle as well. Oats are also used in some brands of dog and chicken feed.

Probably the oldest known oat grains were found in Egypt among remains of the 12th Dynasty, which was about 2,000 B.C. These probably were weeds and not actually cultivated by the Egyptians. The oldest known cultivated oats were found in caves in Switzerland that are believed to belong to the Bronze Age.(1)

Oats are chiefly a European and North American crop. These areas have the cool, moist climate to which oats are best adapted. Russia, Canada, the United States, Finland, and Poland are the leading oat producing countries. Oats are adapted to a wide range of soil types, thus temperature and moisture conditions are the usual limiting factors as to where oats are grown. Perhaps no other country uses oats as much in their cropping system as does Scotland. Some winter oats are produced in the United States, but most are spring oats produced mainly in the north central states.(1)

Benefits of oats:

Oats are a common breakfast dish and are an excellent source of iron, dietary fiber and thiamin. They also contain antioxidants that are believed to protect the circulatory system from diseases such as arteriosclerosis, which affects the arterial blood vessel.

There are many variations of oats, and each one characterized according to the way in which they have been processed. Steel cut oats are whole, crushed grains of oat, which has been cut into smaller pieces. Steel cut oats are less processed and have a nuttier flavor. They are also commonly referred to as coarse-cut oats, Irish or Scotch oats.

One hundred grams of dry, rolled oats contain about 380 calories, 67 grams of carbohydrates, 16 grams of protein and 6 grams of fat. They also contain 0.7 milligrams of thiamin, 0.7 milligrams of vitamin E, 4 milligrams of iron and 474 milligrams of phosphorous.(2)

Oats also is great for nervous system as it has large amount of Vitamin B complex. it is also high in calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Tips on eating Oats (3)

1. Eating oat regularly will lower your blood cholesterol level

2. Buy and eat oats if you're feeling sad. It’s a natural antidepressant - will make you feel calmer and normally used to treat depression, anxiety and nervous disorder

3. Unrefined oatmeal can be eaten on regular basis to reduce stress while cooked oats will relieve fatigue

4. Because of its high fiber content, the other benefit of oats is in protecting us from bowel cancer.

Creative uses (3)

1. A bowl of oat porridge with a spoonful of honey makes a calming breakfast for a child in the morning before an exam

2. If you suffer from constipation, try eating raw oats before looking for any drugs.

3. Oatmeal bath ( a form of water therapy) will help heal eczema and other skin conditions

4. Make it your choice of cereal if you want to reduce your cholesterol level. Take it daily.

Benefits of Figs

The Greeks considered figs so precious that they forbade their export. The Romans transported figs to Europe, and even today in some parts of southern Europe figs are thrown at newlyweds, much like rice is thrown in some countries. Figs are widely used in the Mediterranean lands, where they are considered the “poor man’s food.” This is because they are easily available and highly nutritious.
Varieties of Figs

Figs can be black or white, fresh or dried. All kinds are nutritious, but fresh ones are highly perishable. Therefore, 87% of figs sold are dried figs. Three pounds of fresh figs are required to produce one pound of dried figs.

Composition of Figs

Figs are rich in vitamins and other nutrients.

* Figs contain vitamins A, C, B complex and D and dietary fiber.
* They are rich in a number of minerals like manganese and especially calcium. Dried figs have a high content of iron, while black ones are rich in potassium.
* Mucin and pectin are also present.
* Like bananas, figs are rich in natural sugar.

Health benefits of figs can be attributed to the presence of minerals and vitamins in them. Figs contain vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium, potassium and chlorine.

A few of its health benefits include:

* Prevent constipation: There are 5 grams of fiber per three-fig serving. So, it helps in healthy bowel function and prevents constipation.
* Helps to reduce weight: The fiber in figs also helps to reduce weight and is recommended for obese people.
* Lower cholesterol: Figs contain Pectin, a soluble fiber. When fiber goes through the digestive system, it mops up globes of cholesterol and carries them out of body.
* Prevent coronary heart disease: Dried figs contain phenol, Omega-3 and Omega-6. These fatty acids reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
* Prevent colon cancer: The presence of fiber helps to mop up and usher out cancer causing substances.
* Protection against post-menopausal breast cancer: Fiber content in figs give protection against breast cancer.
* Good for diabetic patients: The American Diabetes Association recommends figs for a high fiber treat. Fig leaves reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetic patients who have to take insulin injection. Fig is rich in Potassium. Potassium helps to control blood sugar. Fig leaves have anti-diabetic properties
* Prevention of hypertension: People used to take more sodium in the form of salt. Low potassium and high sodium level may lead to hypertension. Figs are high in potassium but low in sodium. So, it helps to avoid hypertension.
* Strengthens bones: Figs are rich in Calcium. Calcium helps to strengthen bones.
* People having high calcium diet may be affected by increased urinary calcium loss. Potassium content in figs helps to avoid that.
* Prevent macular degeneration: Vision loss in older people is due to macular degeneration. Fruits and figs generally are good for avoiding this condition.
* Relief for throat: The high mucilage content in figs, helps to heal and protect sore throats.

Figs are quite useful in various respiratory disorders including whooping cough and asthma. Since they are also good for digestion, they help in treating constipation, indigestion, stomach ache, etc. Fig is also good for fever, earache, boils, abscesses, venereal diseases and is excellent for the liver. Fig is a highly alkaline food, therefore helps to regulate the pH of the body. Figs are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols. These are antioxidants, which prevent the damage caused by free radicals. Fig is known for its soothing and laxative properties. Figs are low in fat and sugar.

Figs are sweet and soft and their paste is used as a replacement for sugar. Processed figs are used to make pies, pudding, cakes, other bakery products, jam, jellies and preserves.

Precaution: Taking too much fig can cause diarrhea. Dried figs are high in sugar and might cause tooth decay.

10 Tips for Incorporating Figs in your Diet

1. Eat dries figs as a healthy energy snack. For extra flavour and nutrients, stuff them with nuts and a little honey
2. Add figs to baked goods such as muffins, cakes and muesli bars.
3. Add dried or fresh figs to porridge, oatmeal or breakfast cereals.
4. Stew dried figs in fruit juice with other dried fruits to make a delicious fruit salad. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg before serving
5. Poach figs in red wine or fruit juice and serve with Greek yogurt or creme fraiche.
6. Add quartered fresh figs to a salad of fennel, rocket and parmesan cheese.
7. Stuff fresh figs with goat's cheese and chopped almonds and serve as an appetizer or dessert.
8. Make a fig butter by boiling dried figs in fruit juice until soft. When all the liquid has been absorbed, place the mixture in a food processor and blend until smooth. Use to spread on rice cakes, toast or crackers.
9. Add chopped fresh figs to rice, quinoa or couscous dishes.
10. Make a fig tart by grinding two handfuls of walnuts in a food processor. Add one packet of dried figs, 1/2 packet raisins, 200ml apple juice, 1 tablespoon grated orange zest, 2 tablespoons honey and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Process until the mixture is the texture of a sticky paste. Press into a pastry case and bake at a medium heat for 35 minutes.

Benefits of Green tea

Benefits of Green tea

Green tea is a type of tea made solely with the leaves of Camellia sinensis that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. Green tea originates from China and has become associated with many cultures in Asia from Japan to the Middle East. Recently, it has become more widespread in the West, where black tea is traditionally consumed. Many varieties of green tea have been created in countries where it is grown. These varieties can differ substantially due to variable growing conditions, processing and harvesting time.

Over the last few decades green tea has been subjected to many scientific and medical studies to determine the extent of its long-purported health benefits, with some evidence suggesting regular green tea drinkers may have lower chances of heart disease and developing certain types of cancer. Green tea has also been claimed as useful for "weight loss management"

Tea consumption had its origin in China more than 4000 years ago. Green tea has been used as both a beverage and a method of traditional medicine in most of Asia, including China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, India and Thailand, to help everything from controlling bleeding and helping heal wounds to regulating body temperature, blood sugar and promoting digestion.

The Kissa Yojoki (Book of Tea), written by Zen priest Eisai in 1191, describes how drinking green tea can have a positive effect on the five vital organs, especially the heart. The book discusses tea's medicinal qualities, which include easing the effects of alcohol, acting as a stimulant, curing blotchiness, quenching thirst, eliminating indigestion, curing beriberi disease, preventing fatigue, and improving urinary and brain function. Part One also explains the shapes of tea plants, tea flowers, and tea leaves, and covers how to grow tea plants and process tea leaves. In Part Two, the book discusses the specific dosage and method required for individual physical ailments.

Ancient Chinese people knew the benefits of green tea for health. They have always used it for medical purposes. However, in Ancient China, it was used especially against the headaches and depression. Green tea has a great importance in China history. It is produced from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis by some special processes. Unlike black tea, it has little amount of caffeine which causes to insomnia, nausea and frequent urination.

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

Links are being made between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were puzzled by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.

Why don't other Chinese teas have similar health-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.

This is the list of benefits that may be obtained by drinking green tea
1. It is used to treat multiple sclerosis.
2. It is used for treatment and prevention of cancer.
3. It is used to stop Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
4. It is used to raise the metabolism and increase fat oxidation.
5. It reduces the risk of heart diseases and heart attacks by reducing the risk of trombosis.
6. It reduces the risk of esophageal cancer.
7. Drinking green tea inhibits the growth of certain cancer cells, reduces the level of cholesterol in blood, improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.
8. It is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular diseases
9. It is used to treat impaired immune function. .
10. Some researches show that, drinking green tea regularly may help prevent tooth decay by killing the bacteria which causes the dental plaque.

Some Possible Side Effects
Some green tea lovers commonly restrict their intake because of the stimulants it contains — equivalent to about a third the amount of caffeine as is found in coffee. Too much caffeine can cause nausea, insomnia, or frequent urination.

Eating Fruit and Other Tips

EATING FRUIT...

It's long but very informative

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

You have heard people complaining — every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc — actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach.

Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

They are also a key source of lycopene — the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.

Benefits of Raisins

Raisins have often been referred to as nature's candy. If you aren't sure what a raisin actually is.

Raisins are dehydrating grapes that are heat dried or used in mechanical oven for drying. There are different types of raisins; there are Sultana, Malaga, Monukka, Zante Currant, Muscant and Thompson seedless. Though raisins are a dried fruit they are very sweet tasting and have a wrinkly texture. They are a great snack for kids rather than candy.

Raisins are about 69% sugars by weight, most of which is fructose. Raisins are also high in certain antioxidants, and are comparable to prunes and apricots in this regard. As with all dried fruits, raisins have a very low vitamin C content.

The health benefit of raisins is that they are an antioxidant. These help keep the blood clean and flowing. They get rid of all unclean impurities in the blood, raisins can't do the job alone, there are other fruits and juices that act as antioxidants and together they can cleanse the blood and make you healthier. Raisins are said to beneficial for bone density. The minerals in raisins in conjunction with estrogen in women help make bones stronger and ward off osteoporosis.

Raisins are also great for healthy gums and teeth. Though raisins are sticky and very sweet, they do not cause tooth decay or gum disease. The key ingredient in raisins that help promote good oral hygiene is called phytonutrients and olenolic acid. Raisins are also a preventative measure for macular degeneration, which is the health of your eyesight. Just as carrots are good for your eyesight as are raisins. Overall, raisins help with eyesight, oral hygiene and they act as antioxidants. Raisins are sweet and great tasting and promote good health

Raisins are sweet due to their high concentration of sugars. If they are stored for a long period, the sugar inside the fruit crystallizes. This makes the dry raisins gritty, but does not affect their usability. The sugar grains dissolve when the raisins are swelled in (hot) water. Diabetic patients may use raisins instead of regular sugar.

Other benefits of raisins: :)

Constipation: When ingested, raisins swell as the fiber present in them in dried form absorbs water. This helps giving relief in constipation.

Weight Gain: Raisins, like all dry fruits, are very good for gaining weight, as they are full of fructose and glucose and give a lot of energy. Thus, they form an ideal part of the diet for either athletes or body builders who need a lot of energy or those who want to put on weight, without accumulating cholesterol. This is further boosted due to presence of many vitamins, amino acids and minerals (such as selenium, phosphorus etc.) in raisins which facilitate absorption of other nutrients and proteins in the body.

Acidosis: Acidosis is a state of increased acidity of the blood (also known as toxicity of the blood) or of the gases in our respiratory system, the source of acids for both being our stomach. This is very harmful for the body as it may give rise to a number of problems like boils, skin diseases and damage to the internal organs, arthritis, gout, renal calculi, hair loss, heart diseases, tumors and even cancer. Raisins are good source of potassium and magnesium (two of the most popular constituents of antacids, being basic in nature) both of which are very effective in reducing acidity. They neutralize the acids and thus help check acidosis.

Anemia: Raisins contain considerable amount of iron which directly helps treating anemia. It also contains many members of vitamin-B complex which are essential for formation of blood. Copper in them also help formation of red blood cells.

Fever: Phenolic Phytonutrients, well known for their germicidal, anti biotic and anti oxidant properties, are present in abundance in raisins and help cure fever by fighting viral and bacterial infections.

Sexual Weakness: Raisins are known to stimulate libido and induce arousal, primarily due to presence of an amino acid called Arginine, which is beneficial in treating problems in erection. It has been a common practice in India to make the bride and the groom drink a glass of milk each, boiled with raisins and added with a pinch of saffron. It is also recommended for those suffering from sexual weakness, to consume raisins regularly. This effect is aided with the presence of lot of energy in raisins.

Bone Health: While Calcium, which is the main constituent of bones, is present in raisins, it is one of the best sources of Boron, a micro nutrient (a nutrient required by the body in very small amount as compared to other nutrients) which is very necessary for proper bone formation and absorption of calcium. Boron is particularly helpful in preventing osteoporosis induced by menopause in women and is very beneficial for bones and joints.

Eye Care: Raisins contain polyphenolic phytonutrients which have anti oxidant properties which are very good for ocular health, as they protect eyes from damages caused by free radicals (oxidants), such as macular degeneration, age related weakening of vision, cataract etc. In addition, it contains very good amount of vitamin-A, A-Beta Carotene and A-Carotenoid, all of which are essential for a good ocular health.

Dental Care: Oleanolic Acid, one of the phytochemicals present in raisins, plays crucial role in protecting your teeth against tooth decay, cavities, brittleness of teeth etc. It effectively prevents growth of Streptococcus Mutans and Porphyromonas Gingivalis, two of the species of bacteria which are most responsible for cavities and other dental problems. In addition, it is rich in calcium which is very good for promoting dental health, as it prevents breaking or peeling away of teeth and enamel and makes them strong. One more interesting thing about raisins is that the longer they stick to your teeth, the better, as it ensures longer contact of Oleanolic Acid with the teeth preventing growth of bacteria. In addition to above, boron present in raisins plays a very important role in checking growth of germs in the mouth as well promotes health of bones and teeth.

Other Benefits: Catechin, a phenolic anti oxidant present in raisins, is very effective for prevention of tumor and cancer of colon. The fibers in it help excretion of bile from the body, burning of cholesterol and thereby ensuring good cardiac health.

Oh..I love raisins so much..I eat it regularly and make sure not less than once a week. Its a blessing to have raisins easily. Hope you also make it a part of your healthy diet. :)

Soursop.. anti-cancer?

Guyabano, The Soursop Fruit

The Sour Sop or the fruit from the graviola tree is a miraculous natural cancer cell killer 10,000 times stronger than Chemo.
Why are we not aware of this? Its because some big corporation want to make back their money spent on years of research by trying to make a synthetic version of it for sale.

So, since you know it now you can help a friend in need by letting him know or just drink some sour sop juice yourself as prevention from time to time. The taste is not bad after all. It’s completely natural and definitely has no side effects. If you have the space, plant one in your garden.
The other parts of the tree are also useful.

The next time you have a fruit juice, ask for a sour sop.

How many people died in vain while this billion-dollar drug maker concealed the secret of the miraculous Graviola tree?
This tree is low and is called graviola ! in Brazi l, guanabana in Spanish and has the uninspiring name "soursop" in English. The fruit is very large and the subacid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, more commonly, used to make fruit drinks, sherbets and such.

The principal interest in this plant is because of its strong anti-cancer effects. Although it is effective for a number of medical conditions, it is its anti tumor effect that is of most interest. This plant is a proven cancer remedy for cancers of all types.

Besides being a cancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites and worms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and nervous disorders.

If there ever was a single example that makes it dramatically clear why the existence of Health Sciences Institute is so vital to Americans like you, it's the incredible story behind the Graviola tree.

The truth is stunningly simple: Deep within the Amazon
Rainforest grows a tree that could literally revolutionize what you, your doctor, and the rest of the world thinks about cancer treatment and chances of survival. The future has never looked more promising.

Research shows that with extracts from this miraculous tree it now may be possible to:
* Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss
* Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections
* Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment
* Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life

The source of this information is just as stunning: It comes from one of America 's largest drug manufacturers, th! e fruit of over 20 laboratory tests conducted since the 1970's! What those tests revealed was nothing short of mind numbing... Extracts from the tree were shown to:

* Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreatic cancer..
* The tree compounds proved to be up to 10,000 times stronger in slowing the growth of cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug!
* What's more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola tree selectivelyhunts
down and kills only cancer cells. It does not harm healthy cells!

The amazing anti-cancer properties of the Graviola tree have been extensively researched--so why haven't you heard anything about it? If Graviola extract is as half as promising as it appears to be--why doesn't every single oncologist at every major hospital insist on using it on all his or her patients?

The spine-chilling answer illustrates just how easily our health--and for many, our very lives(!)--are controlled by money and power.

Graviola--the plant that worked too well

One of America 's biggest billion-dollar drug makers began a search for a cancer cure and their research centered on Graviola, a legendary healing tree from the Amazon Rainforest.

Various parts of the Graviola tree--including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit and fruit-seeds--have been used for centuries by medicine men and native Indi! ans in S outh America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver problems and arthritis. Going on very little documented scientific evidence, the company poured money and resources into testing the tree's anti-cancerous properties--and were shocked by the results. Graviola proved itself to be a cancer-killing dynamo.

But that's where the Graviola story nearly ended.

The company had one huge problem with the Graviola tree--it's completely natural, and so, under federal law, not patentable. There's no way to make serious profits from it.

It turns out the drug company invested nearly seven years trying to
synthesize two of the Graviola tree's most powerful anti-cancer ingredients. If they could isolate and produce man-made clones of what makes the Graviola so potent, they'd be able to patent it and make their money back. Alas, they hit a brick wall. The original simply could not be replicated. There was no way the company could protect its profits--or even make back the millions it poured into research.

As the dream of huge profits evaporated, their testing on Graviola came to a screeching halt. Even worse, the company shelved the entire project and chose not to publish the findings of its research!

Luckily, however, there was one scientist from the Graviola research team whose conscience wouldn't let him see such atrocity committed. Risking his career, he contacted a company that's dedicated to harvesting medical plants from the Amazon Rainforest and blew the whistle.

Miracle unleashed
When researchers at the Health Sciences Institute were alerted to the news of Graviola,! they be gan tracking the research done on the cancer-killing tree. Evidence of the astounding effectiveness of Graviola--and its shocking cover-up--came in fast and furious....

....The National Cancer Institute performed the first scientific research in 1976. The results showed that Graviola's "leaves and stems were found effective in attacking and destroying malignant cells." Inexplicably, the results were published in an internal report and never released to the public...

...Since 1976, Graviola has proven to be an immensely potent cancer killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, yet no double-blind clinical trials--the typical benchmark mainstream doctors and journals use to judge a
treatment's value--were ever initiated...

....A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated that one chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells at "10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug) Adriamycin..."

....The most significant part of the Catholic University of South Korea report is that Graviola was shown to selectively target the cancer cells, leaving healthy cells untouched. Unlike chemotherapy, which indiscriminately targets all actively reproducing cells (such as stomach and hair cells), causing the often devastating side effects of nausea and hair loss in cancer patients.

...A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the Graviola tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung
cancers... Seven years of silence broken--it's finally here!

A limited supply of Graviola extract, grown and harvested by indigenous people in Brazil , is finally av! ailable in America .

The full Graviola Story--including where you can get it and how to use it--is included in Beyond Chemotherapy: New Cancer Killers, Safe as Mother's Milk, a Health Sciences Institute FREE special bonus report on natural substances that will effectively revolutionize the fight against cancer.

This crucial report (along with five more FREE reports) is yours ABSOLUTELY FREE with a new membership to the Health Sciences Institute. It's just one example of how absolutely vital each report from the Institute can be to your life and those of your loved ones.

From breakthrough cancer and heart research and revolutionary Amazon Rainforest herbology to world-leading anti-aging research and nutritional medicine, every monthly Health Sciences Institute Member's Alert puts in your hands today cures the rest of America --including your own doctor(!)--is likely to find out only ten years from now.

Nuts and Its benefits

Nuts and its benefits

Nuts are abundant in nature. Nuts such as almond, pistachios, walnut, hazelnut, peanut are so familiar to our diet. But the question is do we consume enough nuts in our life to make a visible effect in our health? Here are some excerpts I’ve taken from various sources in the internet and to my surprise they do make me want to eat more nuts, consistently.

Benefits of eating nuts

Other than its crunchy texture and delicious taste nuts do offer a whole array of benefits for human. Some nuts has more oil than others. Nuts are one of the best plant sources of protein. They are rich in fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants such as Vitamin E and selenium. Nuts are also high in plant sterols and fat - but mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 - the good fats) which have all been shown to lower LDL cholesterol.(1)

In 1992 researchers working on the Adventist Health Study at Loma Linda University in California reported that those eating nuts daily had up to 60% fewer heart attacks than those who ate nuts less than once per month. The beneficial effect of nut consumption was found for men, women, vegetarians, meat-eaters, fatter people, thinner people, the old, the young, those who did much exercise and those who did little exercise. The study was large, comprising 31,000 white Californian Seventh Day Adventists and similar benefits of nut eating were subsequently found for African Americans. Prior to the publication of these results, nutritional advice had usually been to minimise nut consumption on the grounds that they were a "fatty" food.(1)

Researchers found that people who eat nuts regularly have lower risks of heart disease. In 1996, the Iowa Women's Healthy Study found that women who ate nuts >4 times a week were 40% less likely to die of heart disease. Two years later, another study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health found a similar result in another group of women subjects. Furthermore, potential heart health benefits of nuts were also found among men. In 2002, the Physician's Health Study found that men who consumed nuts 2 or more times per week had reduced risks of sudden cardiac death. (1)

Nuts are a nutrient dense food and contain high amounts of dietary fiber. They are high in unsaturated fats, while low in saturated fats. They also contain folic acid, copper, magnesium, Vitamin E and arginine. A study conducted at The Center of Health Research at Loma Linda University in 1999, found that nuts go way beyond good nutrition. The study found that eating one to two ounces of nuts a day, helped to lower LDL cholesterol by eight to twelve percent. They also found that frequent nut consumption, by individuals, lowered their risk of coronary disease by up to fifty percent. It’s thought that the cardiovascular benefits that nuts provide include a reduction of LDL cholesterol. Also, the antioxidant mechanism of Vitamin E content within the nut and the higher levels of nitric oxide within the blood, from arginine, seems to help the blood vessel lining and platelets. (2)

Several epidemiological studies have revealed that people who consume nuts regularly are less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease. Recent clinical trials have found that consumption of various nuts such as almonds and walnuts can lower serum LDL cholesterol concentrations. Although nuts contain various substances thought to possess cardioprotective effects, scientists believe that their Omega 3 fatty acid profile is at least in part responsible for the hypolipidemic response observed in clinical trials.

In addition to possessing cardioprotective effects, nuts generally have a very low glycemic index (GI). Consequently, dietitians frequently recommend nuts be included in diets prescribed for patients with insulin resistance problems such as diabetes mellitus type 2. (3)

The amino acid arginine is also present in nuts which, can help overcome erectile dysfunction. Arginine has also been found to boost immunity and lower elevated blood pressure levels. In addition, certain nuts like pecans, walnuts and almonds contain tryptophan - another amino acid that stimulates the production of the 'feel good' hormone serotonin in your brain, which can help ward off depression and promote a more relaxed state. (4) Nuts can lower your risk of heart disease by as much as 35%.(4)

Another reason to eat more peanuts is because they're an excellent source of B vitamins, including folate, riboflavin and niacin. All of which are essential for healthy metabolism and growth; a deficiency of them can cause muscle degredation and fatigue.(4)
Like peanuts, walnuts also have important benefits for your heart because of the omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids they contain. Both omega 3 and omega 6 are also needed for maintaining healthy joints and brain function. (4)

Another must are Brazil nuts. A recent study conducted at the University of Illinois in the US suggests that Brazil nuts may play a vital role in preventing breast cancer. According to the scientists who carried out the study, this benefit is probably a result of the high amounts of selenium they contain. (4)

Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralise harmful free radicals that can attack healthy cells and increase the risk of serious conditions like heart disease and cancer - including breast cancer as already mentioned, and lung, bowel and prostate cancer. (4)

The list of health benefits attached to each individual nut is endless. Other nuts that are particularly good include: pistachios for their high iron, protein and fibre content and high levels of magnesium, which helps control blood pressure; hazelnuts because they are one of the richest sources of the antioxidant vitamin E; and cashew nuts for their high iron content which is needed to make haemoglobin - the red pigment in the blood.(4)

Which nuts to eat?
The definitive answer to this question is currently unknown. In the Adventist Study about about 32 percent of the nuts eaten were peanuts, 29 percent almonds, 16 percent walnuts, and 23 percent other types.(1)

These researchers did not ascertain whether the nuts were fresh, oil-roasted, or dry-roasted. The Nurses' Study found that peanuts, which are legumes, appeared to be just as effective in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease as tree nuts. Experiments where volunteers were fed nuts as part of their diet for several weeks have found that walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachio nuts and macadamia nuts all alter the composition of the blood in ways that would be expected to reduce the risk of coronary disease. Chestnuts, a nut unusually low in fat, do not yet seem to have been studied. The best advice currently is probably to eat a variety of nuts.(1) Therefore, eating a broad range of nuts is best as they each have specific health benefits.(4)

Walnuts though, because they contain n-3 fatty acids, may be particularly beneficial, but this requires further study. Coconuts, on account of their high saturated fat content, should probably be avoided.(1)

After all eating a generous amount of nuts in you life won’t make you nuts at all!

Cellular Nutrition

What is cellular nutrition?

Cellular nutrition is basically the process of feeding the cells with the necessary nutrients that it needs so that it can perform its functions without any obstacle. Cell is the basic unit of all living things. So the overall health of the body depends on the health of each and every cell in the body. The moment our cells begin to lose its functions then we can feel that some parts of us is not functioning very well. The result is a decline in health and soon followed by degenerative conditions.

It is therefore very important to make sure that our cells are giving its full in providing energy to our body and to achieve that we need to give the important nutrients to our cell through correct nutrition.

Free radicals

As stated in my previous posts, free radicals are the byproducts of processes that includes oxygen that occur inside the cells. Though normal, the buildups of free radicals may lead to cell damage through the destruction of structures in the cell by the free radicals. To minimize this, the body will produce substances that neutralize the free radicals. These anti-free radicals is known as antioxidants.

If the production of free radicals is higher than the production of antioxidants then damage of the cell will occur, this is known as oxidative stress. Oxidative stress, simply put, is the damage made to a cell through the oxidative process from the action of free radicals. Uncontrolled, oxidative stress can lead to chronic degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart disease, mutation, cancer, eye problems and brain problems that sometimes leads to Alzheimer's disease.

How to optimize the function of cells

To decrease or neutralise the effects of free radicals damage, our cells need to be supplied with a consistent supply of antioxidants. Vitamin C is one of the various antioxidants that is very important in this aspect, there are myriads of types of antioxidants that can combat the effect of free radicals.

The point is good nutrition. A nutrition rich in antioxidants is very crucial in helping our cells to regenerate, grow and function optimally. So to feed our cells we need to consume foods rich in antioxidants such as vegetables and fruits.

But the question is " Are we willing to eat a large amount of fruits and vegetables daily? Which often equals to 17 kiwifruits, 18 oranges, 160 apples daily! anyone??

Thus, in our super fast, hectic, time-saving lifestyle today, what we really need is a good quality supplement that can supply our cells with the much needed antioxidant. As been summed up by an author, "Think of cellular nutrition as a very wise way of using the supplement and your food as “preventative medicine” to stop the disease process before it even begins."

Healthy choice begins with you, right now.

Caution About Coke Cans

This is Serious! This incident happened recently in North Texas .
A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The! autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.

Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of all soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of all soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.

Please forward this message to all the people you care about.

Wonderful Benefits of Banana

First of all, never, put your banana in the refrigerator!

This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again .

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.

It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassiu! m and ma gnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, 'eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit.
